Phillip Island Markets
No visit to Cowes, Phillip Island, is complete without some retail therapy. At least that is my maxim each time I visit this delightful town during summer. I can spend hours at the various Cowes markets and never feel tired or be overcome by monotony. Every time I visit these markets, there is something new and fresh to experience.
Thankfully, there are a number of local markets in Cowes and the neighbouring areas. If I get tired of the surf and sand, I just head out to these markets to imbibe a unique ambience and befriend the locals.
Cowes Trash and Treasure Market
Someone rightly said one man’s trash is another man’s treasure! This saying holds true for the Cowes Trash and Treasure Market. It is open from 9 am until 2 pm every Sunday and is located on Settlement Road, opposite Mitre10. I never fail to find a “treasure” each time I visit this market. What I like the most is it has something to offer everyone, regardless of their budget.
Market on Chapel
When I am looking for hot local food that is economical along with local produce, plants (my mother loves them!) and craft, this is the place I head out to. There is nothing like mingling with the locals and browsing through the trash and treasure shed! The market is held on the fourth Saturday of the month and is open from 9 am till 1 pm. The Market on Chapel is held on the Uniting Church grounds, which are at Chapel Street and Warley Avenue.
Cowes Island Craft Market
It is amazing to see so much local talent is on Phillip Island and all this talent it showcased at the Cowes Island Craft Market. When I am looking for unique and innovative craft, fresh local produce or some affordable clothes, this is where I enjoy spending my time. I also get an opportunity to speak to the artists and artisans and sometimes they invite me back to their studios, where I get a first hand glimpse at their work.
Cowes Night Market
In summer, on The Island, the Cowes Night Market is the most happening place. There is nothing like heading out to this vibrant and colourful market, which is held at the Jetty Triangle. I make it a point to visit it everyday. So should you!
